1. What is the eligible age to enrol for Emerald Plan?
The eligible age for Emerald Plan is from 16 to 64 years old. The policy is renewable till 75 years of age.
2. Do I need to go for a medical check up before taking up the policy?
No. We do not require you to go for a medical check up.
3. Will my premium increase as with age?
Yes. Premiums for Emerald Plan are age banded and when you move from one age band to the next there will be a subsequent increase in premium.
4. What if I already have a medical insurance cover?
• For the Hospital Income and Compassionate Boarding Fee benefits, Emerald Plan will pay on top of any other medical insurance cover that you may already have.
• Post Hospitalisation benefits are on a reimbursement basis. If you receive full compensation from your existing plan you will not be able to claim on Emerald.
5. Can I claim hospital income if I am hospitalised for 6 hours?
• No. In order to make a claim you would have to spend at least 24 hours in hospital.
6. I prefer to visit Traditional Chinese Medical practitioners as opposed to Western doctors. Can I claim for treatment by a Chinese Physician?
• No. Emerald Plan does not cover for treatment by Chinese Physicians.
7. I am generally healthy but am currently being treated for high blood pressure. Can I still buy Emerald?
Yes, you can still purchase Emerald Plan. However, if you are hospitalised due to high blood pressure, you will not be able to claim the benefits as this would be classified as a pre-existing medical condition and excluded under the terms of the policy.
8. What do you mean by pre-existing conditions?
A pre-existing condition is defined as any physical condition or the existence of any illness or disease that was diagnosed, treated, or for which a Physician was consulted, at any time prior to the Effective Date or the last date of Reinstatement of the Policy, whichever is later. This includes any illness or disease for which signs and / or symptoms exist, and for which any normal prudent person would have sought medical advice.
9. What is the maximum number of days that I can claim for the Hospital Income benefit?
You can claim up to a maximum of 730 days per illness/injury.
10. Is there a waiting period before I am able to make a claim on this policy?
There is a 30 day waiting period for illness. A claim due to an illness can only be made if hospitalization commences after 30 days from policy effective date.
11. Can I buy Emerald for my family and myself?
Yes, you may opt for a family plan under Emerald as long as the Applicant & Spouse is at least 16 to 65 years. The age for Dependent children is from 15 days to 18 years or 25 years if the dependent is a full time student in a recognized tertiary institution.
12. What are the limits for the children in the family plan?
It is 10% of all the specified benefits.
13. Is there a grace period for Emerald Plan?
Yes. A grace period of 14 days from the policy expiry date will be allowed for renewal instructions during which this policy will remain in force.
